Think Like a Sheep

Think Like a Sheep
Psalm 23 (NET)
1 The Lord is my shepherd,
[Provision]
I lack nothing.
2 He takes me to lush pastures,
he leads me to refreshing water.
[Restoration]
3 He restores my strength.
[Direction]
He leads me down the right paths
for the sake of his reputation.
[Protection]
4 Even when I must walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no danger,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff reassure me.
[Vindication]
5 You prepare a feast before me
in plain sight of my enemies.
[Blessings]
You refresh my head with oil;
my cup is completely full.
[Eternal Life with our God]
6 Surely your goodness and faithfulness will pursue me all my days,
and I will live in the Lord’s house for the rest of my life.
David, the future king of Israel wrote this psalm before he was king. As a shepherd David understood his relationship with his God was mirrored in his relationship as a shepherd with the sheep under his care.
He defeated Goliath while still sheparding sheep and he was a mighty warrior because he rightly understood and acted based on his own relationship with his God. God designed mankind to trust in Him, the Lord their God, with all their heart, mind, soul and strength (Mark 12:30) and to:
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NET)5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding.
6 Acknowledge him in all your ways,
and he will make your paths straight.
