What Christ Did For Us

Four Things

The First Three Things

13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. (Col 2:13-15 ESV)

What Many Christians Believe

"Jesus came to die for my sins so I can go to heaven."

To many Christians this gives the impression that eternal life is something we get when we die.

The Full Gospel According to Colossians 2:13-15

  1. Forgiveness
    • forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
    • (Acts 2:38, Eph 4:32)
  2. Life in Christ
  3. Disarming of Satan

What Else Did Jesus Come to Do?

      4. Jesus came to show us how someone who is spiritually alive can live and not sin.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men. (John 1:4 ESV)

I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him [God the Father] who sent me. (John 5:30 ESV)

I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he [God the Father] sent me. (John 8:42 ESV)

The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. (John 14:10 ESV)

Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you [God the Father]. (John 17:7 ESV)

For I [Jesus] have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. (John 13:15 ESV)

whoever says he abides in him [Jesus] ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. (1 John 2:6 ESV)

For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. (1 Peter 2:21 ESV)

Be imitators of me [apostle Paul], as I am of Christ. (1 Cor 11:1 ESV)

And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit  (1 Thes 1:6 ESV)
