Angels & Demons

Fallen Angels & Demons - What's the Difference?

Both angels and demons are spirit.  They are able to interact with human and animal flesh but they themselves have no bodies.  They are persons without bodies.

Fallen angels are the angels that joined the devil's (Satan, devil, serpent, dragon Rev 12:9)

Demons are never mentioned as part of the devil's original rebellion.  Demons are described in the Gospels in a fair amount of detail.  Several creditable Hebrew and Greek scholars have made very compelling cases that demons are the disembodied spirits of dead Nephalim who were the offspring of fallen angels and women.  See "Are Demons Angels?"

Demons

Weaker spirits, often associated with a body part, a soul part or a mind part

Angels

Stronger spirits, more evil (Matt 12:45) assume a kingly, queenly or princely position, sometimes referred to as the "elemental spirits" or arche (Gal 4:3,9)

Demons

Prefer a human body but will go into animals

Angels

Come and go. Assigned or attached to a person or place (town, neighborhood, city, state, county, country, kingdom, political region, religious region, etc.)  but work from the outside for the most part. Work through influences, fear, terror and other weapons to attach, seize, shatter, strike, pierce, paralyze, etc.

Demons

Are cast out because they don't like to leave, they have to be driven out. Through the blood of Jesus and the words of our testimony and confession, we change the legal right of a demon to stay.

Angels

Must be dealt with by coming out from them and leaving them. (2 Cor 6:17) (Rev 18:4)

Demons

Are driven out by a word of command. It is the believer's right. It was also special authority given to the twelve and the seventy (Matt 10:1, Luke 10:17). The gift of miracles may also be at work in the public arena (Acts 8:7,13). Jesus referred to this as the children's bread (Matt 15:26).

Angels

Angels, Satan and stronger adversaries are resisted and rebuked [in the name of Jesus Christ]. Spiritual mountains have to be removed through prayer and fasting (Matt 17:18,20).

Demons

To gain advantage over demonic resistance the individual must confess his sins; forgive his brother and enemy; he must bring his deeds to the light because demons love darkness and disorder (Psa 32:1-5).

Angels

With a spiritual sword (the Word of God Eph 6:17) the generational sins are confessed, renounced and cut off. Unusual ties or "apron strings" or alliances, belongings (one flesh), etc. are cut off (Lam 1:14, Prov 5:22)

Demons

Are personal, using the body as a house or temple. They usually master the parts of the body that were given over to sin (Rom 6:12,14, Gen 4:6-7 [The Akkadian word for sin in this passage is the word for demon.  The Hebrew term translated “crouching” (רֹבֵץ, rovets) is an active participle. Sin is portrayed with animal imagery here as a beast crouching and ready to pounce (a figure of speech known as zoomorphism). An Akkadian cognate refers to a type of demon; in this case perhaps one could translate, “Sin is the demon at the door” (see E. A. Speiser, Genesis [AB], 29, 32-33).]).

Angels

Are assigned to geographical locations such as Persia or Greece. Angels were assigned to the seven churches of Revelation. Angels can belong to generational lines. These angels are following "chains of authority" as in governments and individuals. An Eskimo totem represents the thunderbird (war bird) on top with the descending second, third, fourth generations following.

Demons

Attack through true and false guilt. The conscience is violated, legal accusation begins and the wages of sin is death. Demons may also take advantage of shock and surprise. The Scripture warns us about deceiving spirits (1 John 4:1).

Angels

Often attack through natural rebellion, terror, panic, nightmares (female witch of the night), fear of death, etc. They make war on us looking for the broken wall and weak defenses. Israel was given to Babylon because of Israel's sin. (Psa 91:5-6, Psa 118:10-13)

Demons

Behave as a friend or an enemy, whichever suits their purposes best. They are the enemy but also the familiar spirit or spirit guide. The strong man can behave as a false self, spiritual twin or shadow.

Angels

Like to appear as a parent (both good parent or evil parent). They take their positions on thrones using fiat or permission. They are like puppet masters with cords tied to indwelling demons and body parts. Our task is to tear down and destroy the throne. God's prophecy over the serpent is that he will be cursed above all beasts, "on your belly you must go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life" (Gen 3:14).

Demons

The demon's rights and attachments are accomplished through guilt and sin. Repeated sins create addictions and idols of the heart that may open the door to "seven worse". These temptations often are felt as passions or provision for the body.

Angels

The stronger demons or angels "influence" the mind. They are selling a philosophy, a proposition, a half truth or a complete falsehood to an unsuspecting mind or seared conscience (1 Cor 12:2). Peter was not demonized, yet Satan was able to speak through him because he was emotional over Jesus' revelation that he would suffer and die (Matt 16:23).

Demons

Would like to possess the whole person. This state is unlikely in the redeemed Christian because they have turned "from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith... (Acts 26:18). The Apostle John described it as "the darkness is passing away and the true light is shining" (1 John 2:8). So demons possess or oppress or demonize whatever part is offered to them as a tool for sin. Therefore a demon can dwell in a hand, or tongue, an ear, a mouth, sexual organs, limbs of the body, the stomach or back. (Luke 11:34-36, Eph 4:27, John 14:30, Mark 9:43,45)

Angels

Are more powerful yet their schemes are predictable. Satan behaves as a father (John 8:39-47) or prince. Satan can appear as a mother, or harlot or queen. The stronger angels behave like the seraphim with faces of lions, men or women, bulls and eagles. Satan likes to show himself as a dragon (dinosaur) to the children or otherwise as a large or poisonous serpent. As the spirit of death, he manifests as the horse and rider, the hooded executioner, skull and crossbones, the reaper, etc. Mechanically, death creates works such as pits, chains, bars and gates.

These angels attack or oppress specific parts of the body. The queen appears as a bird that pecks at the forehead. The antichrist spirits oppress the back of the head. They use the stiff neck and stubborn shoulders of sinners. They create the hooks in the jaw and anchors in the sexual parts that have to be driven out. The queen uses an asherah pole which behaves as a generational record, much like an Eskimo totem. (Isa 51:23, Psa 69:21-23)

Perhaps, the most common manifestation among unbelievers is spiritual blindness. Paul describes this blindness as similar to the veil that Moses wore that is only taken away in Christ. (2 Cor 4:3-4)

Demons

Self deliverance is possible. With the Holy Spirit's authority, you can point your finger toward the affected part and command it in the name of Jesus Christ to loose or come out. The Scripture says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (Jam 4:6-7).

This pattern of submitting and resisting is often aided with adequate preparation. These fruits "in keeping with repentance" (Matt 3:8) include confession of sin and guilt, renunciation (divorce) of association, rebuking (using spiritual sword), driving out, repeating until the demon leaves or the Lord speaks, and crying out with a loud voice so as to become single hearted and single minded in prayer.

Much deliverance requires counseling or prophetic help to overcome the schemes of the enemy. "The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward..." (Matt 10:41). God raises up prophets like the judges of the Old Testament to deliver the people after they repented of their deeds that lead to captivity and oppression.

Angels

Corporate prayer is needed against the angelic strength. Daniel's answer to prayer was held up for 21 days by an opposing angel (Dan 10:11-13). Some of the stronger spirits can only be overcome through prayer and fasting (Mark 9:29). Paul revealed that "through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places" (Eph 3:10). Jesus taught, "Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them" (Matt 18:18-20).

The effect of these prayers is to dethrone [no longer worship], send back, bring down to the dust, cut cords, expose, remove legal power, pull out of prisons, pits and tombs, unwrap the grave clothes, take off the veil, wash in full or partial baptisms and renew covenants.

Scriptures on Fallen Angels

Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels  (Matt 25:41 ESV)

7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (Revelation 12:7-9 ESV)

Scriptures on Demons (AKA Evil Spirits, Unclean Spirits)

And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. (Matthew 8:28 ESV)

But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. (Matthew 12:28 ESV)

43 “When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. (Matthew 12:43-44 ESV)

In that hour he [Jesus] healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind he bestowed sight. (Luke 7:21 ESV)

Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.” (Luke 11:26 ESV)

11 And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. (Acts 19:11-12 ESV)
